League leaders Shannon stretched their lead at the top of the All-Ireland league with an eight-point win over defending champions Dungannon at Stevenson Park.

League leaders Shannon stretched their lead with an eight-point win over defending champions Dungannon at Stevenson Park.

It was Dungannon's first home defeat of the season and their fourth from seven outings.

Shannon took the lead on 18 minutes with a try from scrum-half Fiacha O'Laughlin.

Dungannon got off the mark with a penalty three minutes later, but Shannon controlled the remainder of the half.

Shannon were 19-3 ahead at the break with two tries from John Lacey and conversions from Tommy Cregan.

Dungannon came into the game after the interval with Mark Bradley reducing Shannon's lead with two penalties.

The game was stopped for 10 minutes in the second half as the referee was replaced after sustaining an injury.

But Shannon held out even though Bryn Cunningham went through for a try eight minutes into injury time.
