England easily defeated South Africa by 29-9 at Twickenham today.

The home side's success was largely founded on the boot of Jonny Wilkinson, who slotted over seven penalty kicks.

South Africa trailed by three points at half time, 9-6, as Braam Van Straaten was successful with two penalty kicks compared to three from man-of-the-match Wilkinson.

However, England pressed home their advantage after the interval with two penalties from Wilkinson and a Mike Catt drop goal. Van Straaten bagged the Sprinkboks only second-half score but soon after Wilkinson punished the visitors again with two more penalty conversions.

Finally in stoppage time, Dan Luger intercepted a South African move deep in the English half and ran the length of the pitch to score the game's only touch down.

Full-time: England 29, South Africa 9
