At half-time in the Millennium Stadium, Ireland lead by 12 points thanks to a faultless kicking display by David Humphreys.

The Ulster outhalf has been successful with all his five penalty kicks while Wales' lone reply came from the boot of Stephen Jones.

Ireland were twice denied tries by Shane Horgan and Mick Galwey as TV replays proved the plays were inconclusive.
