AIL Rugby: Dungannon bring Carlow down to earth

All-Ireland league champions Dungannon brought newly-promoted Co Carlow
down to earth with a bang today with a 24-point trouncing at Stevenson
Park.
Jan Cunningham scored either side of half-time and four other tries gave
Dungannon a win and a bonus point to kick off their defence of the title.
Dungannon were 34-8 ahead at the interval after Carlow struck early in
the first half.
Dungannon's Ulster players, fresh from their win last night, made the
difference against Carlow, who shocked Young Munster last Sunday.
Carlow began well when in the third minute winger Ian Dywer skipped in at
the corner.
Dungannon soon replied when Bradley put over a penalty.
After 15 minutes the champions were in cruise control after scoring three
tries through Bryn and Jan Cunningham and newcomer Tim Barker.
Ryan Constable slotted home the fourth.
Dungannon continued their demolition job after the interval.
Jan Cunningham scored his second within minutes of the re-start and then
Michael Haslett went over for Dungannon’s sixth try.
Matt Spiller scored his second is as many weeks for Carlow and Bobby
Baggott grabbed another consolation try to leave the scoreline a more
respectable 44-20.
