Rugby: We must play our own game against Baa-baas - Bulloch
Scotland vice-captain Gordon Bulloch has warned his team-mates not to be drawn into the Barbarians' 'web' ahead of the game at Murrayfield.
The Glasgow Caledonians hooker believes Scotland must stick to their own guns to build confidence ahead of the final Six Nations game against Ireland in September.
But Bulloch insists that a good performance against Bob Dwyer's touring team will enhance confidence in the Scottish camp.
"We have got to play our own game. We will work hard on defence and try to cope with what they can do to us," said Bulloch.
"But we must not try and get drawn into the Barbarians' style and will have to assert our own authority on the game and try to get a result that way.
"A good performance and result can only give us confidence going into the September international.
"It will be a bit different playing Ireland in September but this is a chance to get a few younger faces in there and work on a bit of continuity."
However, Bulloch admits that the Scottish side will have few anxieties about facing Jonah Lomu, Tim Horan and company in the game to honour the late Gordon Brown.
Global television has made research on southern hemisphere opponents far less complex in recent years.
And Bulloch is confident that the spirit and energy of last year's tour of New Zealand can come to the fore for the team.
"A lot of the guys have played them before on tours so we know what they are like," said Bulloch.
"We have also seen them on television in the Super 12 so it will be nothing new to us.
"Last year, we were 12 points down to New Zealand in the first half-hour and then we clawed it back and almost won the match.
"If we can instil that into the young guys, we play our own game and don't give them respect, we can get among them."
