Rugby: Henry decides against major overhaul

Wales coach Graham Henry has made two changes from the side destroyed by England for next Saturday’s Six Nations Championship clash against Scotland at Murrayfield.

Cardiff wing Gareth Thomas and Llanelli lock Chris Wyatt pay the price for that 44-15 Millennium Stadium mauling by losing their places.

Thomas makes way for 21-year-old Llanelli flier Mark Jones, while Swansea’s Andy Moore is preferred to Wyatt.

Thomas, capped 48 times, drops down to the replacements’ bench, with Craig Quinnell promoted from Wales A duties as second-row cover.

Henry has resisted any temptation for a major overhaul in the wake of England’s romp.

Builth Wells product Jones, a prolific try-scorer at club level this season, makes his first Test start after taking over from Thomas midway through the second-half against England.

And Moore, first capped when Wales met South Africa in 1995, has another chance to establish himself following Wyatt’s ineffective display nine days ago.

Centre Scott Gibbs has been selected, despite suffering a back injury during the England game, but might yet have to prove his fitness.

Wales have lost on five of their last six Edinburgh missions, the solitary 1990s success being a 34-19 triumph four years ago.
