Young Munster lifted the Bank of Ireland Munster Junior Cup at Musgrave Park for an eighth time in a thrilling final against Cork Constitution.

These sides that have dominated Munster rugby this season produced another classic with Young Munster coming out on top 22-13.

Young Munster Coach John Staunton was pleased with his side’s performance. “I suppose we needed a trophy after losing last week’s All-Ireland semi-final,” he said.

“We just could not lose today and it gives us a great boost ahead of our meeting in the Senior Cup in two weeks’ time.”

Young Munster led 7-3 at half time and had tries from Gallagher, Jack Harrington, and Robert Guerin, while Paul Downes kicked two conversions and a penalty.

Rory Horgan replied with a try for Con and Eoin lacey converted and added two penalties.

Meanwhile, the Munster Junior team made a great start to their Junior Interprovincial campaign with an impressive 43-20 away win over Leinster at Portlaoise.

Trailing 15-5 at half-time, Munster had tries from Dean O’Brien (2), Sean Herlihy, Warren Kelly, Dan Horgan, and Nicky Irwin. John Lillis kicked five conversions and also added a drop goal.

Richmond won the Transfield Cup with an 11-10 win over UL Bohemian. Dylan O’Dwyer scored a try for the winners and Brian Mullins kicked two penalties.

Skibbereen defeated Cobh Pirates 36-16 to retain the County Cup. Gavin Coombes and Ritchie Byrne scored two tries each and Donal Collins one. Denis McCarthy kicked four conversions and a penalty. Aaron O’Flynn and Richard O’Sullivan replied with tries for Cobh and Eamon Ronan kicked two conversions.

Garryowen defeated Mitchelstown 33-15 to win the Munster Junior Two League Cup. John Landers scored a try for Mitchelstown, who were also awarded a penalty try and Pat Molly kicked a conversion and a penalty.

Highfield defeated Bandon 23-21 in the Junior Two South Cup Final. Eoin Keating and Mark Spillet scored tries for Highfield and Darragh O’Keeffe converted both and added three penalties.

Kieran Phelan and Cian Buttimer replied with tries for Bandon and Andrew Willis kicked a conversion and three penalties.
