Sexton’s decision to return to Ireland looks a perfect outcome for IRFU

Little over a year after committing to life as an émigré in Paris with Racing Metro, Jonathan Sexton is coming home, with the news confirmed yesterday that the out-half is to rejoin Leinster on an IRFU contract that runs through to 2019.

For the IRFU, it’s a scenario beyond anything they could have dreamed back in January 2013, when news of Sexton’s decision to move to France and subsequent expressions of annoyance with the Irish union’s parsimony raised fears of a player exodus.
