Garryowen turn league form on head to give Cashel shock

Cashel 5 Garryowen 20

Cashel, who have qualified for the Cork Charity Cup final, would have fancied their chances on home soil against a visiting side that has conceded 63 points in their opening two Ulster Bank All-Ireland League outings of the season.

However, a much changed Garryowen clicked into gear from the outset and turned over 10-0 ahead thanks to a well taken try by centre James McInerney, converted by Jamie Gavin, who also landed a penalty.

A superb movement 10 minutes into the second half ended in a try for Garryowen centre Harry McNulty and even though Cashel interrupted their progress with a try by Brian Silke, the Limerick side had the last word with their third try, touched down by winger Alex Wootton, that sent them into a semi-final meeting with Shannon.

nThere was some bad news for the club over the weekend as the death occurred of Joe Quinn, a former captain of Garryowen and a member of their Munster Senior Cup-winning side of 1969.
