McLoughlin named IRFU’s Head of Medical Services

Dr Rod McLoughlin was yesterday named IRFU’s Head of Medical Services with responsibility for managing a system which provides world-class care to professional players.

The role will also involve the establishment of an international-standard medical infrastructure for the amateur game, both schools and clubs, throughout Ireland.

McLoughlin brings a plethora of experience to the role.

Already Director of Medicine at the Irish Institute of Sport, he was Medical Officer for 2008 and 2012 Olympic Games and he will continue in both roles.

He has also served as medical officer in the past with the Wicklow Gaelic football team and Monkstown Rugby Club.
