O’Gara: Jonny will learn

Ronan O’Gara believes Jonathan Sexton will learn some valuable lessons from his competitive debut for Racing Metro.

Sexton landed three from six kicks during Racing’s unimpressive 19-14 win over Brive, with his replacement Jonathan Wisniewski nailing two late penalties to seal the win.

But O’Gara, Racing’s kicking coach, admitted there was room for improvement from the Irish international out-half

O’Gara said: “To be fair, two kicks were from 40-plus metres. One he missed and another we were talking about putting it two metres inside the right hand of the post but it went straight over the right hand post.

“So they’re the little things, and as I said to him afterwards ‘Jonny, I’ve had 20 games like that, so it’s important that you make sure for the next four weeks you pick up that it goes six out of eight, five out of six, four out of six, five out of six, but we can’t be having three out of six or two out of seven’.

“When you want to be the best and Johnny wants to be the best, I’ve been through it and learned it all, so it’s important you learn from it.”
