O’Connell to learn fate today

Munster’s Paul O’Connell will learn today if he faces any fallout from striking Leinster’s Dave Kearney in the head during Saturday’s RaboDirect Pro12 game.

O’Connell could be cited by match commissioner Eddie Walsh for the incident which resulted in a lengthy treatment for Kearney before he was removed from the pitch on a stretcher.

Though match referee Nigel Owens took no action, Walsh may deem the incident merits further action.

In relation to the O’Connell incident, accidental or otherwise, there is a suggestion that under regulation 17, 10.4 (c) that those found guilty of kicking an opponent could face at least a four-week ban. That would rule the inspirational O’Connell out of Munster’s Heineken Cup semi-final against Clermont.
