Anderson warns Ireland to heed lessons of ’85

It’s a 27 years ago but for Willie Anderson the drama experienced at Lansdowne Road on October 19, 1985 feels like yesterday.

Ireland were Triple Crown champions then with a team packed with British and Irish Lions. Everyone expected them to sweep Fiji into oblivion.

The result, a 16-15 victory to Ireland, was a travesty. The visitors were robbed by a controversial decision by Welsh referee Derek Bevan not to allow a 75th minute breakaway try that would have ripped the form book to shreds.
