Cashel bidding to stun Con in cup semi-final

The newly-promoted Division 2A outfit laid down a marker in the opening round with a 13-7 win over 2010 champions Bruff before racking up 49 points against Old Crescent to set up today’s meeting with Con.

Cork Con are one win from two in Ulster Bank League Division 1A but they have impressed in the cup with Serge Renaud starring in a comprehensive 43-6 victory over Dolphin before coming from 6-0 down to beat holders Garryowen 16-6 in the quarter-final.

It’s an all-Limerick affair in today’s other semi-final as Young Munster and UL Bohemian clash at Annacotty. Young Munster progressed through to the quarter-final without touching a ball as competition organisers handed them a walkover after their meeting with Shannon was postponed. It was adjudged that 19-time cup winners Shannon had failed to field a team last Friday for their scheduled meeting with Young Munster at Coonagh. Shannon declared the pitch unplayable for health and safety reasons. After their disqualification, Shannon released a statement expressing disappointment and clarifying they had offered several alternative dates for the fixture but no agreement was reached. Having just about seen off the challenge of Division 2B outfit Nenagh Ormond in Round 1 UL Bohemian impressed with a 22-6 triumph over Sunday’s Well in Musgrave Park, with former Munster man Mossie Lawlor amongst the try-scorers. The quarter-final walkover means Young Munster haven’t played a cup match since their emphatic 37-3 demolition of UCC. They sit joint top of Division 1A in the league with two wins from two while UL Bohs recovered from an opening league defeat to St Mary’s College to overturn Cork Con.
