BARRY MURPHY hopes the latest round of corrective medicine will allow him resume a rugby playing career at some level, although his future in the professional game is over.

Former Munster and Ireland centre Barry Murphy underwent surgery on his foot this week to correct a long-term injury by having two small bones fused together.

The 28-year-old, whose seven-year association with Munster came to end last season had the operation in Dublin, with his surgeon optimistic of a positive outcome.
