FRANCE coach Bernard Laporte wasn’t immune to a little bit of GAA- speak after watching his side’s heart-stopping 20-17 victory over Ireland at Croke Park.

Laporte, who has the appearance of a man more at ease in a dusty library than on the sidelines of the Six Nations Championship, found himself spouting the clichés of team spirit so beloved by the hundreds of hurling and football bosses who are the more regular inhabitants of these corridors.

Ireland seemed set for victory when Ronan O’Gara’s fourth penalty, in the 77th minute, stretched the host’s lead to four points, but France re-gathered at the restart and sent Vincent Clerc through for an easy touch down.
