McAlister gets the all-clear for All Blacks

ALL BLACK coach Graham Henry has abandoned plans to recall Dan Carter to the team to meet Ireland, after fly half Luke McAlister received medical clearance to play.

McAlister spent 24 hours under medical supervision when he missed training yesterday because of an irregular heartbeat.

There were fears McAlister could have had a serious heart problem but tests proved it was “an unusual but not unheard of problem that sometimes affects sports people”.

Henry said: “We have been assured by the medical people that Luke will be okay to train tomorrow and play on Saturday. There are no fears for his safety. The medical description sounds a lot worse than the condition merits.”
