SCHALK BURGER may be nominated for the IRB Player of the Year, but South Africa coach Jake White’s patience with him is wearing thin.

Burger picked up a yellow card, and a subsequent €625 fine from his country, for persistent killing of the ball during Saturday’s test win over Wales in Cardiff.

And White has threatened to drop the forward for the crunch showdown with England at Twickenham if he transgresses again during this weekend’s game against Ireland at Lansdowne Road.

“Any guy who plays openside flanker at test level is always going to have a go. He will try and slow the ball down or force a turnover, but that is his job.

“We will have a chat to him and if you want to become the best in the world, you will have to adapt. If he is going to be dumb and keep running in and diving in head first, then he will have to live by those consequences.”

White added: “If it happens again, it just means Joe will have to move to six and then Schalk will have to go to 23.

“He has been fined R5,000 (€625) for the yellow card. It’s not much but it is a lot in our country.”
