Cited August may miss Cardiff showpiece

BIARRITZ hooker and captain Benoit August could miss the Heineken Cup final against Munster after being cited for allegedly gouging Bath lock Danny Grewcock during Saturday’s semi-final victory in San Sebastian.

Television pictures appeared to show August with his fingers close to Grewcock’s eyes in a maul just before half-time.

Grewcock played down the incident, but it has been reported by citing commissioner John West of Ireland.

The hooker could, in theory, face up to a two-year ban if found guilty.

According to IRB rules, a dangerous tackle earns a suspension of between two weeks and six months, though contact with the eyes or eye area risks a ban of between three months and two years.
