Triple Crown win attracts record viewers
643,000 people tuned in to RTÉ Two for the duration of the game with 821,000 viewers tuning in for the dramatic climax which saw Ireland beat England at Twickenham to clinch the Triple Crown.
Glen Killane, RTÉ Head of TV Sport, said: “We’re delighted that so many viewers tuned in for this thrilling match and for RTÉ’s coverage of the entire tournament.
“Bringing the big competitions to the widest possible audience is one of the things we strive to deliver, and this year’s RBS 6 Nations attracted the biggest ever audiences for the tournament on Irish television.”
Under RTÉ’s contract coverage of the RBS 6 Nations Championship will continue live and free-to-air on RTÉ until at least 2009.
