Students keep their challenge on track

UNIVERSITY College Cork continued their challenge for promotion to the AIB League Division One with a fine win over Young Munster at Clifford Park.

Tries by Frank Murphy and Richard Lane, who also kicked a conversion, were good enough to see off the Limerick challenge, Mark Connolly getting a consolation penalty for them.

Ballynahinch, Bective, DLSP and UL/Bohemians continue to be a threat. Even though DLSP’s game with Highfield was postponed, they’re in a challenging position with games in hand.

UL Bohs are in a similar position with just eight games played after their match with Old Belvedere was called off.

Ballynahinch won at home to Thomond, while Bective beat Barnhall at Donnybrook.

Greystones continued their surge towards the third division title when they beat Bruff at Kilballyowen Park and Clonakilty kept pace with an 18-7 win over Queen’s at Shannonvale.

They lie second in the table, a point ahead of Connemara, who proved much too strong for Banbridge at Rifle Park. They picked up a bonus point in the course of their 32-5 win.

Sunday’s Well have slipped down to fourth. They have a match in hand but won’t be too pleased with their performance in a 29-5 defeat at Corinthians.
