Death of Karl Johnston

THE death has taken place of Karl Johnston, 47 Strand Road, Baldoyle, Co. Dublin, former rugby correspondent of the Irish Press, editor of Irish Rugby Review and author of Lions in Winter, a review of the 1983 British and Irish Lions tour to New Zealand.

He was also a contributor to the Irish Examiner in recent years.

Mr. Johnston died on Saturday at St. Francis’ Hospice, Raheny, in Dublin after a short illness.

A native of Limerick, he was well known in marketing and PR circles before becoming a rugby journalist with the Irish Press in 1979.

He was pre-deceased by his wife Noírín and is survived by children Sarah, Catherine and David.
