Terenure overcome UCC to move two points clear of Young Munster
But it was not all one-way traffic in this top of the table clash that produced some good rugby and good scores - although a somewhat inevitable result.
But if Terenure will be happy with a two points cushion at the top - from Young Munster - they will be aware of Dolphin’s move up to third.
Young Munster scored three tries against Ballinahinch at Ballymacarn Park but could only manage a 17-17 draw.
Dolphin travelled to Gibson Park where they overcame stiff resistance from relegation-threatened Malone. The 18-10 win wasn’t as clear cut as they might have expected, but the four points secured pushed their total to 23 and they have a game in hand over both Terenure and Young Munster.
James Coughlan got the only Dolphin try and Barry Keeshan did the rest of the damage with three penalties and a conversion.
Bective Rangers lost ground when they travelled to Parsonstown, and Barnhall secured an important victory to keep them in some kind of a challenging position.
Greystones might not be title contenders, but they have a knack of producing big performances. Sadly for Midleton, this was one of their better days and they romped to a huge 68-20 win at Dr Hickey Park.
Greystones ran in for an incredible ten tries and he bonus point was in the bag by the interval.
With Malone beaten, it was important for Highfield to beat another struggling side, Waterpark, at Model Farm Road. They managed to do that and finally won a hard fought contest by 23 points to 17, all of which spells bad news for ‘Park, who are bottom of the table without a single win.
Elswhere, Munster side Thomond were just about edged out by DLSP at Kilternan (16-17), while Old Crescent lost to Old Belvedere (15-26) at Anglesea Road.
