Gordon Elliott has issued an apology and attempted to explain the background for the controversial photo that emerged on social media on Saturday night that showed him sitting on a dead horse on the side of a gallop.

Having initially said on Twitter that he would be "cooperating fully" with an Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board (IHRB) investigation into the disturbing image, Elliott has now issued a more detailed statement in order "to provide people with some context surrounding this photo".
