Tony McCoy made a young fan’s day - by bidding against him
Retired jockey Tony McCoy was in generous form at a charity auction earlier this week - with one young fan in particular getting a lovely surprise from his hero.
12-year-old Adam Leahy from Carlow, a keen equestrian, was with his family at a charity auction in the Newpark Hotel in Kilkenny.

The combined auction and Cheltenham preview night was to raise funds for suicide awareness and Adam had decided to use his own money to bid on one particular lot.
He was hoping to buy a portrait of McCoy and had bid up to €950, close to his limit.
He appeared to be out of luck when a higher bid of €1000 was made, by the racing legend himself.
His surprise turned to delight when McCoy called him up to the front, saying: "Adam can you approach the stage please, the painting is yours."
A generous donation to charity and a delighted young fan - an excellent night’s work all round from the former champion jockey.
