Pipe tinkers with Crus schedule

Trainer David Pipe has made adjustments to Grands Crus’ training regime, but will not put a date on a comeback for the misfiring grey.

It is getting on for two years since the eight-year-old gelding’s last victory, in the 2011 Feltham Novices’ Chase, and after an ordinary time last season, he appeared no better when well beaten in a Pertemps qualifier at Kempton on his reappearance.

“His owners came and saw him on Sunday. He’s in good form,” said Pipe.

“We’ve changed a few things at home and will give him another run and see what happens.

“We’re changing his training schedule. What we are doing at the moment is not working.

“It’s ’watch this space’ at this moment. It could be hurdles or fences with him.”

Doing rather better for Pond House at the moment is Dynaste, who was a valiant second to Cue Card in the Betfair Chase and now heads to Kempton on Boxing Day for the William Hill King George VI Chase.

Pipe told At The Races: “He’s come out of the race very well. He showed he could perform at the top level.

“It was a cracking run and all roads lead to the King George.

“We haven’t looked any further than the King George at this present moment

“We’ll try and get him there in A1 condition and take it from there.”
