Rain forces Downpatrick to abandon meet

This afternoon’s meeting at Downpatrick has been abandoned due to waterlogging.

Turf Club press officer Cliff Noone said: “They had 15 millimetres of rain overnight, but the forecasters told them it would stop this morning, in which case they would have been all right.

“But it hasn’t stopped raining, it’s just got heavier and heavier and it’s still raining there now.

“As a result, parts of the track are waterlogged and they’ve had no choice but to abandon.”
