Jockey Andrew Thornton is waiting to find out the extent of the knee injury he sustained at Southwell on Sunday.

The Cheltenham Gold Cup-winning rider fell from Robbie when still in with every chance at the final flight of the Mansfield Chad Handicap Hurdle.

He left the course in a wheelchair and will be assessed this afternoon.

“I’m not too bad. I’m just waiting to get fixed with who I need to see, whether it’s an A and E job or whatever,” said Thornton.

“It’s a problem with my knee but I’ve no idea exactly what. It’s all strapped up at present so it can’t go anywhere.

“I can get around but I’m a bit in the dark and will know later today.”
