Champion Stakes 'an option' for Camelot

A mouthwatering clash between Frankel and Camelot remains a possibility after trainer Aidan O’Brien confirmed the Champion Stakes at Ascot as an option for the latter.

Sir Henry Cecil’s Frankel secured his 11th consecutive victory in the Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot on Tuesday and is next likely to step up to 10 furlongs for the Juddmonte International at York, bringing October’s Champion Stakes into play.

Camelot is unbeaten in four starts and has landed both the 2000 Guineas and the Investec Derby at Epsom this year.

The Irish Derby at the Curragh on June 30 is next on his agenda, with the Champion Stakes an option for later in the campaign.

“It (Champion Stakes) is an option. We take one race at a time with him,” O’Brien told At The Races.

“He’s on the Irish Derby work regime at the moment and that’s what we are looking at, but we’re taking one day at a time.

“So far everything is going well – so far, so good.

“The Guineas was a dream, the Derby was a dream, so we’ll just keep dreaming.”
