Highclere mourn Census death
Census, the sharp middle-distance stayer from Richard Hannon’s yard, died on Wednesday morning as a direct result of a fractured pelvis.
The four-year-old gelding could not be saved as a consequence of his injuries, said his owners, Highclere Thoroughbred Racing,
“The injury, a displaced fracture, was diagnosed on Monday and though Census was given constant attention, he could not be saved,” read a statement posted on www.highclereracing.co.uk.
“He died on Wednesday morning. His loss is devastating and the sympathy of all of us is with the members of the Beeswing Syndicate, Richard Hannon and his staff.”
Census won three of his eight races, including the Group Three Geoffrey Freer Stakes at Newbury, and was second to Brown Panther in the King George V Stakes at Royal Ascot.
He was last seen on a racecourse finishing fifth in the Ladbrokes St Leger at Doncaster.
