Recession makes Ascot return
Recession Proof will make his eagerly-awaited return to the track at Ascot in Saturday’s Betfair-sponsored handicap hurdle.
John Quinn’s six-year-old was last seen finishing fifth in the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle and had won the totesport Trophy at Newbury before that.
He is also entered in a Pertemps Qualifier at Haydock on the same day and holds an engagement in the World Hurdle at Cheltenham.
While Quinn is keen to step him up in trip and feels his future is over three miles, he is content to start over nearly two and a half miles on his return from a lengthy lay-off.
“He’ll run at Ascot this weekend, not Haydock,” said Quinn.
“We do have him in over three miles at Haydock and I’m sure that in time he will stay that far.
“We’ve already put him in the World Hurdle and he’ll have an entry in the Coral Cup, this weekend will tell us which way we should be looking.
“I’m sure that the further he goes, the better he’ll be and when we eventually do step him up in trip, there will be a lot to look forward to.”
