Fakenham and Folkestone inspect

Officials at Fakenham and Folkestone have called precautionary inspections due to frost.

The precautionary inspection at Folkestone has been called for 7.15am ahead of tomorrow's meeting.

Temperatures dipped lower than forecast overnight and officials feel it prudent to make an early check on conditions in case it should happen again.

The ground is currently described as good, good to soft in places on the chase course and soft on the hurdles track.

Fakenham will inspect at 1.30pm today ahead of tomorrow’s meeting.

The Norfolk venue is currently frozen in places after temperatures dropped well below freezing last night and a further frost is forecast tonight.

Clerk of the course David Hunter said: “We will have an inspection this afternoon to assess conditions.

“We will then know if we would have been able to race today and if we could, that would give us hope for tomorrow as the overnight forecast is similar.

“If we are still unraceable at 1.30pm, our prospects would not be so good.

“We are forecast a maximum of 6C or 7C today so we just need the air temperature to do its bit.

“We will have more of an idea about where we are going this afternoon and we could inspect tomorrow, but we will take a realistic view.”
