Uttoxeter gets green light

This afternoon's meeting at Uttoxeter will go ahead as scheduled, it has been confirmed.

The announcement came after an 8am inspection was cancelled.

Incessant rain in the area had forced officials to call an 8am inspection but after only eight millimetres of rain overnight, clerk of the course Charlie Moore was confident enough to give the meeting the green light nearly two hours before then.

"We're fit to race," he said. "We called it on at 6.15am after a quick check.

"We had eight millimetres overnight but the bulk of it had fallen by 10pm.

"It wasn't a drying night but the track has taken it well.

"It's very mild now. There's a possibility of a light shower through the afternoon."
