St Leger hopeful has colic operation

Ladbrokes St Leger hopeful Namibian is undergoing surgery for colic, his trainer Mark Johnston has reported.

The colt was admitted to Newmarket Equine Hospital on Friday morning.

“Namibian has colic. Admitted Newmarket Equine Hospital this a.m. On operating table now,” Johnston said on his twitter account.

The three-year-old had looked a decent prospect for the world’s oldest Classic at Doncaster on September 10 when winning the Queen’s Vase at Royal Ascot and the Gordon Stakes at Glorious Goodwood.

However, he disappointed in the Great Voltigeur Stakes at York last week when only fifth of six behind Sea Moon. He was a 14-1 shot with the sponsors.
