Pelvic injury rules Borderlescott out
Borderlescott will not run again this season after he was found to have a pelvic injury, it was announced today.
The dual Nunthorpe Stakes winner has a hairline fracture and will need plenty of box rest to recover.
However, it is possible the nine-year-old sprinter could continue his racing career next year.
"Unfortunately he's got a hairline fracture on his pelvis. He just needs box rest and he'll be out for the season," said trainer Robin Bastiman.
"I'm going to see the owners and see what they want to do. I think he'll be all right to come back next year. I don't see why not.
"At least we've found out what the problem was. There was something wrong when he ran at York last time as he kept changing his legs.
"You don't know about these things and whether it started off in the Temple Stakes.
"I'm picking him up from Rainbow Equine Hospital in Malton on Saturday. The vets there checked him out, X-rayed him and when he had a scan they found this hairline fracture - a hot spot as they call it.
"It's fixable. In some respects it's better being an hairline fracture than being a torn muscle. Bones mend better and strengthen up.
"He's going to have six weeks box rest, then three months on a walker and away we go again.
"We'll just take it stage by stage with him.
"If we do get him going again next year, he'll have no penalties in these big sprint races. We'll see, it will be up to the owners."
