Society Rock 'unlikely' for July bid
James Fanshawe has been forced to concede that it is ’highly unlikely’ his Golden Jubilee winner Society Rock will be fit enough to run in the Darley July Cup at Newmarket next week.
The highlight of the July meeting at Headquarters was the next logical step for the four-year-old, however, he had a corn at the end of last week which meant he was without a shoe for five days.
With races such as the Prix Maurice de Gheest at Deauville and the Haydock Sprint Cup to aim at, Fanshawe is unlikely to risk his stable star.
“We’ve finally got his shoe back on him but he missed five days,” said Fanshawe.
“We got the shoe back on this morning and hopefully he’ll be cantering again by the weekend but we’ll see.
“I would say it’s highly unlikely that he’ll be running in the July Cup.”
