Power and Engels given Gimcrack option

The Irish Thoroughbred Marketing Gimcrack Stakes at York on August 19 has attracted a classy entry of 61 juveniles.

Royal Ascot winners such as Coventry Stakes hero Power and Windsor Castle scorer Frederick Engels are among the possibles.

Aidan O’Brien’s Power would have to carry a 3lb penalty for his Group Two win at Ascot, as would Richard Hannon’s Lilbourne Lad who won the Railway Stakes in Ireland last Sunday.

Juveniles to have run with credit at the big meeting such as Ed Dunlop’s Burwaaz, John Hill’s B Fifty Two and Boomerang Bob, Hannon’s Crown Dependency and Mick Channon’s Gatepost could all bid for compensation.

Tom Tate’s Parc de Launay maintained his unbeaten record at Newcastle last week while Channon’s Factory Time is another youngster who has yet to taste to defeat and could step up in class.

Tom Dascombe thinks the world of Electric Qatar and despite his defeat last week on debut, the trainer has obviously not lost faith.

Alan Jarvis’ Wise Venture and Barry Hills’ Mezmaar are others among the big entry.
