Memory in French Guineas frame

Memory could get the chance to redeem her reputation in the French 1000 Guineas at Longchamp on May 15.

The Cherry Hinton and Albany Stakes winner inexplicably refused to jump off with the others at Newmarket on Sunday and cantered all of the way up the Rowley Mile detached from the field.

Trainer Richard Hannon is now keen to get her out again quickly.

He said: “It was a non-event and though Longchamp is only two weeks away, she has not had a race as she just cantered up behind them, so there won’t be any question of France coming too quick if that is the route we decide on.

“Hughesie (Richard Hughes) said that Memory just refused to jump.

“She had been slow out in the Albany Stakes at Royal Ascot last year but, though she gave them 10 lengths start, she got away with it then and still won, whereas at Newmarket she was not having any of it.

“However, we will give her plenty of schooling through the gates at home and hope that she will be more co-operative next time.

“She has never been a straightforward filly, but she has a lot of talent and kidology rather than bullying is the way to win her over,” the Wiltshire handler told his website, www.richardhannonracing.tv.
