The Mahmood Al Zarooni-trained colt created a huge impression when winning the Great Voltigeur at York last summer but flopped in the St Leger.

Given plenty of time to recover he bolted up on his next start in the Dubai Sheema Classic.

“He is a true mile-and-a-half horse, he likes a good pace but he has to be fresh going into those races,” said Godolphin racing manager Simon Crisford.

“He cannot back up week-to-week but if you pick your targets and prepare him for the championship races such as the King George, I think he’ll be in the mix. He’s a very high-class horse.

“We might drop back to a mile and a quarter next, we’re thinking about the Prince Of Wales.”

Godolphin’s 2009 St Leger winner Mastery was last seen winning the Hong Kong Vase but he will not reappear in the first part of the season.

“He again has had some issues, as he has every year, and is the type of horse who wants plenty of time between races,” added Crisford.

“We’re not planning to race him until the second half of the season but he will hopefully be campaigned with a a lot of the British Champion Series races in mind.

“Holberg and Opinion Poll will be on the Cup programme and probably start off in the Henry II at Sandown (May 26).”
