Lady to get Classic chance
Richard Fahey has confirmed Barefoot Lady will be supplemented for Sunday’s Qipco 1000 Guineas at Newmarket.
The daughter of Footstepsinthesand flew home from the rear to take the Nell Gwyn Stakes at Headquarters earlier this month and connections have decided to stump up the required £30,000 to add her to the fillies’ Classic.
“We’ve decided to supplement her as she’s 100% and in great form at the moment, so it’s worth a punt,” said Fahey.
“She travelled well on the better ground the other day and came home well, so conditions will be in her favour.
“I’ve watched the race four or five times now and in another 50 yards she’d have won further.
“It looks like she’ll stay and she’s absolutely at the top of her game now. We just hope some of the other fillies aren’t.
“There are a few questions marks about the ground with one or two of the fancied ones, so we’ve decided to give it a shot.”
Paul Cole is leaning towards running Rimth in the French 1000 Guineas rather than the English equivalent.
The Oasis Dream filly would also need to be supplemented to line up on the Rowley Mile, a move which was mooted after she impressively landed the Fred Darling at Newbury under Christophe Soumillon.
With the Poule d’Essai des Pouliches not taking place until May 15, Cole is favouring the extra two weeks preparation time.
“We got her ready for the Fred Darling, whereas some of the others had been got ready for the Guineas,” reported Cole’s website.
“The extra time would be beneficial as it would allow her to freshen up although she has come out of her race really well and seems to be in great form.
“The pace may also suit her in France while Christophe Soumillon being the confirmed rider in the saddle would give you that extra bit of confidence.”
