Jockey in stable condition after Taunton fall
Amateur jockey Richard Hawkins is reportedly in a “stable condition” after being kept in intensive care overnight.
Hawkins lost consciousness when falling from Tiger Dream in a selling handicap hurdle at Taunton on Tuesday.
He remains under sedation in nearby Musgrove Park Hospital.
Chris Down, trainer of Tiger Dream and Hawkins’ great uncle, said on Wednesday morning: “I’ve spoken to his mum and he’s had a reasonably good night.
“He was concussed after the fall, but the scan showed there was no fracture or bleeding on the brain.
“He’s in a stable condition, and the doctors hope to bring him round later.
“He’s still heavily sedated but they plan to bring him round gently.
“At the moment, I think we can be cautiously optimistic.”
