McDonald out for a week

Jockey PJ McDonald will be sidelined for a week after suffering a shoulder injury at Thirsk yesterday.

McDonald was taken to the Friarage Hospital in Northallerton after the fatally-injured Magnini crashed through the running rails during the five-furlong handicap at the Yorkshire circuit.

The rider escaped any serious injuries, however, and plans to return to action by next weekend.

His agent, Richard Hale, reported: “He’s not broken anything, and all the scans and X-rays came through clean.

“He’s got a very sore shoulder, though, and that will take a week to heal.

“He should be back next Saturday.”
