Charlton chasing Premier repeat
George Charlton will attempt to win the totepool Premier Hurdle for the third time when he saddles Bogside in the Kelso novice contest on Saturday.
The Northumberland trainer sent out Bywell Beau to win by 23 lengths in 2007 and Knockara Beau took the prize by 27 lengths in 2009 and now it is the turn of the lightly-raced Bogside to keep up the sequence of a Charlton success every two years.
Bogside has already shown his liking for the Borders track, having opened his account over hurdles there in just his fifth race under Rules two weeks ago.
“The plan is for him to run there on Saturday.” said Charlton.
“It‘s a better race altogether. It‘s a grand race, but we‘ve won it before, once with Bywell Beau and once with Knockara Beau.
“He‘s just a novice. The pace wasn‘t quick enough when he won, he wasn‘t jumping properly. He needed to be going half a gear faster really,” he said.
“We‘ll see. The race on Saturday will find these things out.”
