Sunday's Sedgefield meet abandoned due to frost

Sunday's meeting at Sedgefield has been abandoned due to frost.

The course was hit by some snow this morning, but the real issue was the overnight frost which curtailed a recent thaw.

Clerk of the course Charlie Moore said: "The snow itself is not really a problem, it's the fact that it reduces the ground temperature which is already frozen in places.

"There are three specific areas that have been frozen since November 23 but it was coming out.

"The minus 5C frost we had last night hit us hard and any chance we had has gone.

"People down south might struggle to understand, but I left Uttoxeter this morning and it was 2C and by the time I got to Sedgefield it was minus 4.5C.

"The team here have had enough, they've worked so hard to no avail again.

"We're gutted."
