Mackay to delay return from injury

Nicky Mackay is hoping to resume riding next Tuesday after escaping serious injury in a fall at Windsor yesterday.

The rider was taken to Wexham Park Hospital after being brought down aboard Cape Melody in the attheraces.com Claiming Stakes.

He had set on his sights on a weekend return, but Mackay's agent Paul Clarke has confirmed he will be sidelined for a week as he needs to pass a concussion test.

"Nicky was momentarily knocked unconscious and he has now been told he will have to pass a baseline concussion test," he said.

"He's been told Monday is the earliest he can take the test so he will definitely not be riding until Tuesday.

"He can be booked for rides from Tuesday onwards on the basis that he passes the test so hopefully he will be back in action then.

"He's absolutely fine, just a bit stiff and sore this morning, but there was nothing broken and they released him from hospital yesterday evening."
