Sensational performance for Mills

Robert Mills has large shoes to fill after inheriting the Epsom yard of his late father Terry at the start of this year, but a third Windsor winner of the month has helped him to finish the campaign with a flourish.

A double at the Thameside course last Monday and an encouraging performance from Sensational Love in the European Breeders' Fund Maiden Stakes has helped Loretta Lodge stables reach double figures for 2010.

Sensational Love (9-1) was fourth at Folkestone last time and scraped home a nose in front of 15-8 favourite Ceffyl Gwell.

Terry Mills was the last Epsom trainer to win a Group One when Where Or When took the 2002 Queen Elizabeth II Stakes, and his son admits it has been a testing time.

"It has been a transitional period since we lost dad, but this is great because her owner Julian Harley has been with us a long time and had a share in Where Or When," said Mills.

"We've had to clear out a few of the horses that weren't so good and I've been buying a few yearlings to replace them.

"She broke so well it took her straight to the front at Folkestone last time, which we didn't want.

"She's a big girl and could make quite a nice sprinter next year."

Paul Hanagan's tour of Britain in search of adding to his lead in the jockeys' championship took him to Berkshire, where he secured his first course victory since 2002 as 7-2 favourite Ingleby Spirit got the best of a blanket finish to the Bet After The Off At Ladbrokes.com Handicap.

Cardinal (11-2) gained success in the Got The Feeling, Get To Ladbrokes Handicap but he is priceless to owner Jane May.

"He was fourth at Warwick last time but he reared up in the stalls and everyone was telling us how unlucky he was," said Mrs May.

"He's still an entire and we want to breed from him eventually, but we'll keep him going for the time being.

"He was bred by The Queen - it's funny she has never been in touch! I think I had better write her a letter about him."

Louis-Philippe Beuzelin helped the John Dunlop team maintain their hot streak in division one of the Trainer Magazine Now On iTunes Nursery.

This featured a clutch of juveniles with the requisite three runs before making a handicap debut, one of which was Mountain Range (8-1), who came with a powerful effort on the outside.

"He got stopped in his run at Goodwood last time, but this was nice and smooth," said Beuzelin.

"The confidence was gone at the start of the season, but I'm enjoying it now.

"I've still got my claim, so there's no real point in wasting it now and I could go to work with (Patrick) Biancone at Gulfstream in the winter."

Division two delivered a slightly unexpected one-two for Richard Hannon as 20-1 shot Aldwick Bay finished comfortably in front of Dr Darcey (16-1).

"They are two horses that have not really shown their best up until today," said Hannon's son and assistant Richard junior.

"The winner never looked like getting beat but the second horse has only ju t been cut (gelded) so he could improve a bit for that."

Kieren Fallon arrived from Kempton in time to roust the gradually progressive Launchpad (11-8 favourite) home a length in front of Gift Of Love in division one of the older-horse Bet In-play At Ladbrokes.com Maiden Stakes.

Division two went to the Clive Cox-trained newcomer Constant Craving (25-1).

Pat Dobbs was unseated from the wayward Boldly Go but reckoned he would be OK for his next booked mounts on Wednesday.

Dobbs missed his ride in the Bet On The Go With Ladbrokes Mobile Handicap, which went to apprentice title leader Martin Lane and Chicane (9-1).
