Frankel team consider autumn options

Frankel is likely to get the chance to cement his place as winter favourite for the 2000 Guineas and Derby next month.

The Henry Cecil-trained colt is pencilled in for either the Jumeirah Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket on October 16 or the Racing Post Trophy a week later after earning all the superlatives at Ascot on Saturday.

The son of Galileo gave a sensational display to win the Group Two Royal Lodge Stakes by 10 lengths and the logical step is for him to sign off his juvenile campaign in one of the major two-year-old staying races in the calendar.

“It was obviously a very pleasing performance the way he did it. He quickened very well off a slow pace,” said Teddy Grimthorpe, racing manager to owner Khalid Abdullah.

“The way he came from last to first in a matter of strides was, I thought, the most pleasing part of the performance.

“It was pleasing to see him step up to Group class and he’s got to try to go a bit further now.

“It looks like either the Dewhurst or the Racing Post Trophy next. That’s the way Henry wants to go and he is favouring the Dewhurst at the moment, but there is nothing set in stone yet.”

Frankel is currently market leader at around 2-1 for the 2000 Guineas and 4-1 for the Derby.
