Workforce shines in Lingfield work

Workforce moved one step closer towards realising his Investec Derby dream with an important piece of work at Lingfield this morning.

Michael Stoute’s colt was put through his paces on the Polytrack surface under Ryan Moore.

He worked alongside Total Command and another unnamed stablemate.

Connections of the Prince Khalid Abdullah-owned three-year-old are now leaning towards letting him take his chance at Epsom on Saturday week.

Stoute said: “He worked well, and we wanted to give him that experience of going down a slope.

“We will have a word with the Prince, but I’m keen to head to Epsom.

“It was a good experience for the horse.”

Moore added: “He’s lovely, laid-back type and he did a nice piece of work.”

Workforce was an accomplished winner of a Goodwood maiden last year – his only start as a juvenile – and looked green when finishing second behind Cape Blanco in the Dante at York.

He is around the 10-1 mark to land the premier Classic on June 5.
