Jolly good show at Bath
Jollywood provided further cheer for the Richard Hannon team with victory in the EBF/Sponsorship Opportunity With High Five Racing Maiden Stakes at Bath today.
Paco Boy oozed class when winning the Lockinge Stakes at Newbury on Saturday and Dick Turpin was another Hannon high-profile runner when second in the French 2000 Guineas 24 hours later.
Jollywood (8-1) made her debut in far lass glamorous surroundings, but knuckled down to the task in hand under Pat Dobbs to nail the front-running Silca Conegliano by a neck.
Winning owner, Julie Woods, said: "I am thrilled as we bought her as a foal from Goffs in Ireland.
"She had done a nice piece of work at home but she is not very big and this was a fact-finding mission.
"Pat said she travelled well but was green and hopefully there is more to come."
Andrew Balding failed to make the track in time for the Lindley Catering Median Auction Maiden Stakes after the ash cloud interrupted his journey back from Paris on Sunday, but his team did the business in his absence and saddled Dungannon to success.
The 11-4 chance was a beaten favourite at Salisbury last time when racing on an unfavored strip of ground, but he made amends under Liam Keniry.
Having been held up in touch, Keniry produced the son of Monsieur Bond to take issue at the furlong pole, after which the partnership pulled two lengths clear.
The colours of 2006 Epsom Derby winner Sir Percy were in evidence in the Lindley Catering Fillies' Handicap as trainer Marcus Tregoning and owners Victoria and Anthony Packenham were reunited with Lady Hestia.
The couple have a handful of horses in training with Tregoning and have been making hay with Lady Hestia, who registered a double.
Martin Dwyer's mount enjoyed the benefit of market rival, On Terms, being withdrawn at the start and the 11-10 favourite made every yard of the running in the mile-and-five-furlong event to score by a length and a quarter.
Tregoning, who travelled to Bath for just the one runner, said: "She is a lovely filly, likes fast ground and stays very well.
"She was dropping back in trip and didn't want a muddling race so we decided to make plenty of use of her."
Mrs Packenham added: "That is fantastic as Marcus was worried about dropping her back in trip.
"She failed to get in foal and I am pleased in a way as we now have the whole season to play around with her.
"She has done well from four to five and we want to give her every opportunity before trying to get her in foal again."
