Ayr meeting faces bleak outlook

Prospects of racing at Ayr on Saturday look bleak as the track has been frozen for over two weeks.

Officials have called a 1pm inspection for Wednesday and unless there is a significant improvement in the forecast, an early decision looks likely.

“We’ve called the 1pm inspection for tomorrow purely because of the forecast we’ve been given,” said clerk of the course Hazel Peplinski.

“We think it’s only fair that we give people as much notice as possible but we haven’t seen any significant improvement in conditions since December 12 and we’ve been frozen since then.

“It would take two days to thaw the track properly and it is due to get colder still this weekend with minus eight forecast.

“It’s a real shame because the entries were good and so were the ticket sales.”
